Trip to St. Louis

On Tuesday morning, Tyler left the MTC and travelled to St. Louis. He was able to call me from the airport and he sounded great. He sounded very excited to get started preaching the gospel and was glad to be out of the MTC and on his way. He told me that I wouldn't hear from him until next week, so I am patiently awaiting an email from him. Tonight, however, I logged into my email and had an email from a family in O'Fallon, IL. They said they met Tyler today and wanted to let me know how he was doing. Here is the email I received:

Dear Sister Nash,

Today as I drove into my street I waved to the missionaries who were walking along. We live just 1/2 mile from the church. To my surprise we have a new missionary. Elder Nash. The elders have been visiting one of my elderly neighbors and were on their way to her house. It is pretty cold today so I brought them in and gave them some hot chocolate and we visited. Elder Wentworth the trainer who has been here for some time is such a good elder. Very excited, knows his scriptures and works hard. He will be a great trainer for your son. We soon found out that Elder Nash has been out just 3 days. What a wonderful and exciting time. I right away said give me your mom's email so I can report to her how you are doing. I have a son in Mexico, out 8 months so I know it is so fun to hear about them. Elder Nash is doing well. He looks great and was wearing his new over coat and hat and scarf so he is trying to stay warm. It soon will be better weather in another month. He said his feet are sore from all the walking. He is pretty tired from the schedule they have been on, but he will get conditioned. He wasn't complaining but I could see he was tired. He said he was so tired last night he forgot his journal, so he was really tired. He will do great. He has a very nice spirit about him and he will love the people out here. Tomorrow will be his first day in the O'Fallon IL ward and everyone will love him. The elders pretty much eat with the members every night. We have a calendar so they get to meet with lots of families. The area around here is a lot of military families as Scott AFB is near by, at least in Ofallon. Our ward after splitting now takes in Fairview Heights also.Feel free to email me anytime if you need to get Elder Nash a message or if you have other questions, or need to mail something and need an address. The family they are staying with is very nice, very active and the home is very nice. The boys live in the finished basement. I think they told me they have a little kitchen area and a good spot to stay in. I forgot to mention my husband is from Washington, UT and granduated from Dixie 45 years ago. We were back in Oct for his reunion. So Elder Nash and my husband had fun talking about the landmarks that have changed. Well have a good week and I know you will be anxious to get your first email from him this week, which should be tomorrow Monday as that is their PDay I think. I live for Mondays as we get our email and love to hear from these wonderful elders serving the Lord. Love to your family, we will look out after Elder Nash,

Gayle and Merlin Tobler

The MTC: Mom's Point of View

Well we dropped Tyler off at the MTC this afternoon. It was quite an experience. We arrived at the MTC and it was a very organized process. When we turned into the parking lot we were ushered around to the curb and were told to unload our missionary, passengers and luggage. They directed Tyler and his luggage one way and sent me off to park the car.

After I parked the car, I walked back to the building and met up with everyone outside the MTC. They told us to take any outside pictures we wanted before we entered because Tyler would not be allowed to come back outside. Tyler went through a check in process and was given a name tag, address, etc. We were able to take some more pictures inside and then we were ushered down to a chapel.

This is where it got emotional. First of all, WHY did they have to play the LDS church commercials. I always cry when I see those commercials! I certainly didn't need to see them then.

The service started and they had us all sing "Called To Serve", which of course had every Mom in the room crying. They told us all about what to expect and reminded Moms and families that we need to leave our missionaries alone and not try to visit them while they were at the MTC or when they leave to the airport for thier mission. One thing they really emphasized was that our missionaries need to hear from us! So please write Tyler. Here is his address while he is at the MTC:

Elder Tyler Scott Nash
MTC Mailbox #185
MO-STL 0224
2005 N. 900 E.
Provo, UT 84604-1793
The end of the service came and it was time to say goodbye. I think I did pretty good. I hugged him a couple of times and gave him a sloppy kiss on the cheek, which he quickly wiped off! He hugged Azure and Cade (finally got that hug he has been asking for for months). Then we turned and exited. I am excited for him! I hope that he LOVES his time at the MTC and on his mission.

Just a quick note about writing Tyler: If you go to DearElder.com, you can send him a letter for free. While he is at the MTC they will print it out and deliver it by noon the next day. After he leaves for his St. Louis they mail everything that is received by Thursday on Friday.

Mission Call

So I got my mission call to the Missouri St. Louis Mission on November 4th 2008 and I am two days away from my departure to the MTC and I thought why not create a blog for those who would like to be up to date with my progress in the mission field. I have uploaded a picture of my call letter though that would be a good start to my blog.
